Alpha Lipoic Acid 300mg - also known as thiottic acid, for years it was considered exclusively for its enzymatic cofactor action in the reaction of oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate, alpha ketoglutarate and branched chain amino acids, leaving out what is today the reason for its main use: the antioxidant power. Notwithstanding its key role as a cofactor of oxidative metabolism, thus guaranteeing the correct energy flow, alpha lipoic acid is also part of the body's antioxidant potential, so much so that it has been defined the prince of antioxidants, due to its direct role in control of ROS (reactive oxygen species), and for its regenerative capacity of other key molecules in the protection from oxidative stress, such as Vitamin E, vitamin C and glutathione. Recently, moreover, it has been observed how lipoic acid can guarantee a better uptake of cellular glucose, assisting the insulin signal. All these features have led the various researchers to clinical trials, obtaining very important results in the treatment of oxidative damage diseases, such as diabetic neuropathy, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, atherosclerotic and hepatic cardiovascular diseases.

Moreover its good intestinal absorption, and the bioavailability attested around 30/40%, make the oral supplement, an excellent source of lipoic acid (better than food).

The benefits offered in the sports field by the manufacturers, many of which are not supported by the scientific literature, should interest the increase in lean mass, the decrease in fat mass, the protection of muscle from oxidative damage, and the optimization of the recovery phase .

Many studies show that the integration of antioxidants, especially if taken together, can significantly improve the body's antioxidant capacities and counteract the oxidative damage that generally occurs following intense physical activity; consequently these supplements contribute to reducing the feeling of fatigue and improving the recovery phase.

Vitamin E 15 mg - is present in nature with 8 different forms, among which the most biologically active is alpha tocopherol. This fat-soluble vitamin is introduced through the diet (olive oil, oilseeds, some cereals), and absorbed at the level of the small intestine with a mechanism of passive diffusion mediated by bile salts, with an efficiency of 30/40%. First through the lymphatic system, then through the circulatory stream associated with lipoproteins, vitamin E reaches the liver and other tissues, mainly adipose tissue, muscle and adrenal gland, where it can perform its biological activity. The fundamental role of vitamin E is certainly the antioxidant one, preventing from oxidation the PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acids) present abundantly at the membrane level and consequently preserving the cellular functionality. In this reaction, however, the alpha tocopherol oxidizes and the alpha-tocoploxylic radical loses its antioxidant capacity, which fortunately is predominantly restored by vitamin C but also by coenzyme Q10 and lipoic acid. There are many applications of vitamin E in the clinical field, having proved useful in improving oxidative stress disorders, some of which are very serious, such as cancer. Furthermore, numerous studies are evaluating its potential therapeutic effect against cardiovascular and atherosclerotic pathologies.

In sports, vitamin E, also associated with other antioxidants, has shown absolute success in reducing oxidative markers, attenuating the feeling of fatigue and muscle damage, enhancing the body's antioxidant capacity and, in some studies, also improving the aerobic capacity.

These studies, however, use a clearly higher dosage (300mg / day) at 10 - 12 mg estimated for the daily requirement, bearing in mind that this may be subject to an increase correlated to the intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids with diet and style of life.

In general, daily dosages up to 800 mg / IU do not cause any undesirable effects.

Coenzyme Q10 10mg- belonging to the group of ubiquinones, is synthesized by our body, but its production decreases with age. Moreover, given the participation of HMG-CoA reductase in its synthesis, statins, commonly used to reduce cholesterol levels, could induce a lowering of the concentration of this molecule. In these cases, integration may become necessary. Like the fat-soluble vitamins, the absorption of coenzyme Q10 at the level of the small intestine is favored by the presence of dietary fats.

Particularly concentrated in tissues with high aerobic capacity such as the heart, coenzyme Q 10 acts as an electron transporter, necessary to guarantee the production of ATP from the respiratory chain, and at the same time as a powerful antioxidant molecule, supporting vitamin E in the prevention of lipid peroxidation . Its supplementation was useful in the treatment of cardiomyopathies, atherosclerotic, neurodegenerative and tumor diseases (given its potential anti-angiogenic effect).

In sports, supplements between 150 and 300mg per day for at least 2 weeks have been shown to be effective in reducing markers of muscle damage (creatinkinase and myoglobin), oxidative damage (malondialdehyde) and consequently the feeling of fatigue.

The daily requirement is about 5mg, but this rises to 50mg exceeded 35 years.

The dosages recorded in the scientific literature, related to the sporting application of alpha-lipoic acid, are around 600 mg / day, with not completely clear assumptions. However the antioxidant effect, which we reiterate is the ONLY scientifically proven in healthy subjects subjected to exercise, in conjunction with other antioxidants, was also achieved at lower doses, around 150mg / day. Regarding the timing of recruitment, in this case also given the presence of two liposoluble molecules, it would be optimal to take the supplement during meals.

The association of lipoic acid, vitamin E and other antioxidants has already been documented in the literature, proving to be effective in reducing oxidative markers following physical exercise.

Side effects ALA FX - Anderson - Alpha lipoic acid

At doses above 1200 mg / day, side effects such as itching, tingling and gastrointestinal tract infections (diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal cramps) have been documented.

Precautions for use ALA FX - Anderson - Alpha lipoic acid

Contraindicated in cases of renal, hepatic, diabetic, pregnancy and lactation.

Interactions ALA FX - Anderson - Alpha lipoic acid

Pharmacological - given the ability of lipoic acid to activate intracellular glucose intake, the simultaneous intake of hypoglycemic agents could have an unexpected and marked hypoglycemic effect; you should therefore consult your doctor before use.
