INSANITY ® is a commercial product that offers a standardized service for a fee; it includes: 10 workouts, a defined "Elite " nutritional plan, a calendar with Tracker Fit Test to monitor progress, and online support.

INSANITY ® is a multimedia training program designed by Shaun T, a well-known American personal trainer. The multimedia of the INSANITY ® system consists in the association of a complete program, divided into various DVDs, to an online support through which it is possible to keep in touch with the INSANITY ® fitness experts and share their experiences within of the "student" community; all with the aim of maintaining a high level of personal motivation. INSANITY ® also has customer service.

INSANITY ® is a slimming, toning and training course; his name draws the attention of the most naive because, thanks to the stereotypes widely used in the amateur fitness world, the "difficulty" of training is understood as synonymous with "great effectiveness" in obtaining results. Moreover, indiscriminately, INSANITY ® promises to reach the goal of a hard and dry body no later than 60 days.

The inventor himself considers INSANITY ® a protocol "for fools" ... and he is not wrong! INSANITY ® totally disregards the level of preparation of the client and proposes even complex exercises with very rapid executions, increasing the risk of bad postures, inappropriate movements and consequent muscular, tendinous or articular traumas.

INSANITY ® method, tools and training principles

The INSANITY ® method is based on some principles of training, which are:

  • High Intensity Training or HIT: in Italian, high intensity training; INSANITY ® offers relatively short but extremely intense training sessions, which allow you to reach calorie consumption that reaches 1, 000 kcal per session. It would be interesting to analyze the origin of this energy, probably obtained (given the level of physical preparation of the average users) also from the combustion of muscle proteins.
  • Interval Training or IT: in Italian, interval training; INSANITY ® allows (so to speak) to maintain high intensity of effort thanks to the insertion of short breaks between the various executions. It is a concept widely used both in fitness and in athletic training; a common example is training in Circuito (AC) or Circuit Training (CT), in all its types.
  • No training tools: INSANITY ® allows you to train ONLY with a free body, joining the increase in intensity to increase the speed of resistance to speed, rather than the resisting force typical of circuit training; the muscular contractions are of various nature and a libertine use of pliometry is made. Also in this case it would be interesting to observe the outcome of a series of speedy jumps for an obese person or for an injured knee or ankle, or even just for any sedentary.

The workouts offered by the INSANITY ® package are 10, for a duration ranging between 30 'and 86', to be repeated consecutively for a period of 60 days (frequency and organization specified in the program). More in detail:

  • DVD 1: practice test and assessment of training level (30 'training)
  • DVD 2: cardio-plyometric circuit for fat burning (42 'training)
  • DVD 3: power and cardio-resistance to promote toning and increase definition (40 'training)
  • DVD 4: training-Shaun with cardiac background to promote the acceleration of physical recovery (33 'training)
  • DVD 5: pure cardio alternated with cardio ABS, therefore with very high intensity without pauses (55 'training)
  • DVD 6: cardio and rebalancing to break the 2 months of training and prepare the body for the next step (37 'training)
  • DVD 7: circuit spaced at maximum intensity with evaluation of training status (86 'training)
  • DVD 8: plyometric circuit spaced at maximum training intensity (55 'training)
  • DVD 9: maximal cardiac cardio and high intensity cardio ABS (65 'training)
  • DVD 10: maximal recovery and elongation in preparation for another macro-cycle (47 'training).

The INSANITY ® creator guarantees the effectiveness of the treatment with reimbursement offer, in the event of dissatisfaction with the protocol, by means of customer service; it would be interesting to evaluate the clauses and the constraints that mediate this statement.

I personally consider INSANITY ® an interesting means to promote overall weight loss, toning and cardio circulatory training, with an increase in dexterity and agility ... but exclusively in the hands of a good sports technician or personal trainer; the risks of injury for a novice who decides to undertake INSANITY ® are far too high and therefore absolutely unacceptable. Its trade and related advertising would deserve to be moderate or even simply "clarified" by exposing in detail the various drawbacks linked to the risks of injury but, as happens in all commercial operations that move large volumes of money, guarantee the health of consumers to the detriment of the profit represents a simple utopia.
