Food sources
Pantothenic acid is found in foods both in free and bound form, and is widely distributed in plant and animal foods. About 85% of the diet's pantothenic acid is present in the form of coenzyme A and phosphopanthine.
Recommended intake levels
There is not enough information to establish pantothenic acid requirements, nor specific studies on dietary levels in Italy. Average levels for adults 4-7 mg / day are recommended by the Commission of the European Community (1993), with individual contributions ranging from 3 to 12 mg / day. These intake levels seem adequate, as they are able to prevent deficiency states. The range of 3-12 mg therefore constitutes the interval of safety and adequacy, as suggested by the European Scientific Committee.
