Prostatic hypertrophy is a disease of the prostate, a chestnut-like gland located just below the bladder and in front of the rectum. Among the pathologies affecting the prostate, the most common is benign prostatic hypertrophy, also known as prostate adenoma. The main symptom of prostatic hypertrophy is the decrease in the caliber and urinary jet, with difficulty in urination resulting from the volumetric increase of the gland and the partial obstruction of the urethra that follows from it. Other common symptoms in the presence of prostatic hypertrophy include: nocturia, urinary urgency, intermittent urination, frequent urination, feelings of not completely emptying the bladder, urinary retention and post-urination drip.
