E463 HYDROXYPROPYLCELLULOSE
Hydroxypropyl cellulose is obtained from cellulose, the main polysaccharide constituting wood and all plant structures, propilated by chemical means.
Compared to cellulose, it has a better solubility in water (and being soluble it can be fermented in the intestine).
Hydroxypropyl cellulose is mainly used as a thickening agent, anti-aggregating and emulsifying agent but also, outside the food sector, as a wood putty.
It is a compound that can be contained in different products.
High concentrations of hydroxypropyl cellulose can cause intestinal problems, such as swelling, constipation and diarrhea.
