  • E401 SODIUM ALGINATE

Sodium alginate is the sodium salt of alginic acid (see E400), a natural polysaccharide. It also has a predominantly thickening and emulsifying function.

Sodium alginate, as well as other salts, can be contained in different food products: desserts, barbecue sauces, ice cream creams, ricotta cake mixes, puddings, pretreated sliced ​​cheese etc.

At the moment. at the concentrations normally used, there are no known negative side effects caused by sodium alginate, while, at high doses, there may be a decrease in the intestinal absorption of iron and other minerals.

  • E403 AMMONIUM ALGINATE (equal) → used above all, in addition to the foods mentioned above, in non-alcoholic beverages, food colorings, icings, etc.
  • E404 CALCIUM ALGINATE (same) → used above all, in addition to the foods mentioned above, in frozen ice cream and bakery products.
