Calcium bisulfite is the calcium salt of sulphurous acid.
It comes in the form of greenish liquid, which forms calcium sulphite by chemical reaction.
In the presence of acids, it forms sulfuric acid.
It can be present, as a preservative, in the production of beer. Furthermore, it increases the stability of canned vegetables.
Calcium bisulphite does not appear to have any adverse health effects.
ADI DOSE: 0.7 mg per kg of body weight.
