FINACEA ® has also proved effective in treating acne rosacea.
Action mechanism FINACEA ® Azelaic acid
FINACEA ®, a medicinal product used in the treatment of acne, owes its therapeutic efficacy to the presence of Azelaic Acid, the active ingredient whose mechanism of action has not yet been fully clarified.
However, the clinical efficacy of this active ingredient seems to lie in:
- normalizing activity the production of sebum and keratin, controlling the proliferative processes of keratinocytes and thus avoiding the classic hyperkeratinization that is observed during acne;
- antimicrobial activity, effective against Proprionibacterium acnes, a microbial agent involved in the genesis of vulgar acne and sometimes responsible for the phlogistic evolution of lesions;
- antioxidant activity, probably determined by the ability to control the formation of free oxygen radicals and important in limiting the oxidative damage induced by reactive oxygen species.
Following skin application the amount of Azelaic Acid absorbed is minimal and is rapidly eliminated via the urine or through the process of Beta oxidation.
