Herbal tea against menstrual pain

Herbal teas against menstrual pains exploit the emmenagogic and antispasmodic properties of some vegetable drugs, scientifically proven or simple empirical fruit of the popular tradition.

The most well-known and used vegetable source in the presence of menstrual pain is given by the flowering tops of Achillea millefoglie. It is used against dysmenorrhoea (painful menstruation), mainly due to its antispasmodic properties.

Emmenagogue drugs, today of relative use, are those that cause, facilitate or increase menstrual flow; among these we remember the absinthe, the artemisia, the matricaria, the parsley, the saffron, the senecione and the calendula.

The therapeutic effect of herbal teas is however rather bland and in the presence of important menstrual pains - after having evaluated the causes and having established a suitable therapy - it is necessary to use dry extracts or tinctures of drugs such as cimicifuga (roots, rhizome), agnocasto (fruits) and evening primrose oil. Generally speaking, a diet rich in fish (at least 3 weekly intakes) or alternatively with omega-3 (linseed oil, hemp oil, fish oil) is often recommended; at the same time, it is advisable to limit the consumption of simple sugars and foods that are too high in fat.
