A small pharmacy in your suitcase

When a trip is planned, it is always necessary to put a small "holiday-saver" kit in the suitcase, equipped with basic medicines to deal with the most common ailments, first aid tools and other medical material that you may need. Furthermore, it may be difficult to find the same drugs we usually use abroad.

This small travel pharmacy should contain:

- Drugs for any pre-existing pathological conditions (eg antidiabetics, antihypertensives, anti-epileptics, etc.);

- Antipyretic / pain reliever (eg paracetamol);

- Antihistamine (eg cetrazine) and antihistamine or cortisone cream (eg hydrocortisone) for insect bites and allergic reactions;

- Antispastic (eg joscina butyl bromide) in the case of colic;

- Antidiarrheal substances (eg loperamide and diosmectite), lactic ferments and salts for oral rehydration to be taken in case of dysentery and vomiting;

- Laxatives (to be used only in case of real need);

- Specific antibiotic against traveler's diarrhea;

- Antacid and prokinetic drugs to be taken in the event of disorders resulting from gastro-intestinal syndromes (eg domperidone);

- Disinfectant or anti-inflammatory tablets for the throat;

- Drops for earaches and eye drops in case of redness, sun irritation and allergic conjunctivitis;

It is useful to evaluate the possibility of bringing a broad-spectrum antibiotic for abscesses, ear infections and cystitis with your doctor. Depending on the destination and duration of the visit, high protection sunscreens, water sterilization tablets, any condoms and contraceptives, antimalarial drugs, insect-repellents and mosquito nets can also be used. Finally, it should not be forgotten: digital thermometer, disinfectant (preferably spray), antibiotic ointment and various dressing material (plasters, gauze, sterile syringes and needles).
