Aperitif Pretzels: Better Something Else?

Puff pastry is not one of the lightest or easy to digest ingredients. However, it remains the unknown of what its REAL impact on the diet could be. Let us assume, for example, that (in the light of the aforementioned introduction) the puff pastry is consumed only occasionally and at a marginal level. While excluding it from main meals and snacks, it is likely that it can be offered on a different occasion than the norm; for example, an aperitif before dinner.

Leaving aside the more complex recipes such as: savory pies, puff pastry pizzas etc., it is more reasonable to assume that the puff pastry may constitute classic counter-top pretzels. Recall that a salatino, depending on the hand of the pastry chef and a possible filling, can weigh from 3 to 10g.

An average subject, who must respect a caloric intake of about 1800-200kcal, drinking a glass of white wine or a classic beer bottle, introduces about 100-140kcal. Assuming to finish the drink in 5 sips, it is reasonable to think that at least 5 portions of aperitif are consumed. Then, making a couple of counts, 5 portions of puff pastry pretzels correspond to about 20g; bearing in mind that 100g bring well 560kcal, our trivial pretzels provided more than 110kcal. Respecting the aforementioned daily caloric intake, an aperitif (which replaces the afternoon snack) should provide no more than 90-190kcal; however, as we have seen, the drink and a few pretzels easily arrived at 210-250kcal. Ultimately, puff pastry pretzels are certainly not the most recommended foods to support an aperitif that takes place on a regular basis. How to replace them? Simple! Maintaining the constant of the drink (which in itself could also be enough), rather than 20g of savory snacks, could be better indicated: two or three fruit skewers, two slices of caprese (thin tomato and mozzarella), a boiled egg, two or three slices of prosciutto ham etc.
