Iridology: what is it?

Iridology is a non-diagnostic method of analysis that seeks to determine, through the study of the iris, the location and nature of disorders existing in other parts of the body.

The basic idea is that in each of the two irises there would be a topographic representation of the various parts of the human body . According to iridology, therefore, an anomaly in a given organ can express itself, in the corresponding area of the iris, through the shape of the crown, the spots or the chromatic nuances.

Similar body schemata are proposed by other alternative medicines, such as auriculotherapy and chiropractic. For the exam, the iridologist can use a simple lens or a more sophisticated and modern eye microscope.

Some observations

Iridology is one of the so-called natural prevention medicines . The iridologists claim to be able to determine the existence of a problem related to some apparatus or functionality of the body, but not which type of disease is present in the subject with sure definition. Therefore, the observation of the iris can be a useful indication in the orientation towards further diagnostic investigations (laboratory tests, x-rays, ultrasounds, etc.).

In other words, the possible pathology hypothesized by the examination of the iris must be diagnosed in another way. Furthermore, it is necessary to specify that the practice is not accepted by scientific medicine and has not been subjected to experimental tests conducted with scientific method.
