Volume conversion

The calculator shown on this page allows you to make volume conversions from one unit of measurement to another. We recall in this regard that the unit of measurement of the volume (space occupied by a body), in the International System of units of measurement, is the cubic meter, which corresponds to the volume enclosed by a cube with sides of length equal to 1 meter.

The volume of the cube is obtained by raising the length of one side to the third (thus to the cube):

Cubic volume = lxlxl

Therefore, a cube of side equal to one meter has a volume of one cubic meter (1m x 1m x 1m = 1m3), while a cube of side equal to two meters has a volume of eight cubic meters (2m x 2m x 2m = 8m3). Now let's try the same operations for a cube on the side equal to a decimeter (10 cm or 0.1 m); we obtain that its volume is equal to 1 dm3 (1dm x 1dm x 1dm), equal to 0.001 m3 (0.1m x 0.1m x 0.1m) or 1000 cm3 (10cm x 10cm x 10cm).

In addition to the cubic meter, another commonly used unit of measurement is the liter, which is equivalent to a cubic decimeter.
