andrology

Who is the andrologist?

Andrology is the branch of internal medicine that studies and treats the problems of the reproductive and urinary tract.

The andrologist, therefore, is an internist expert in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that can affect the male organs responsible for reproduction (penis, testicles, prostate and seminal vesicles) and the excretion of urine (kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra).

AN ANDROLOGIST IS OR IS NOT A UROLOGIST?

All andrologists are also urologists, that is medical internists specialized in the identification and treatment of diseases that can affect the urinary tract of both sexes and the male reproductive system.

An andrology expert, therefore, has a far broader preparation than he is sometimes led to think, because only later does he choose to restrict his field of action.

The term andrology derives from the Greek word " aner ", whose genitive is " andros ", which means man.

WHY SHOULD YOU ASK AN ANDROLOGY?

It is the duty of the andrologists to look after men suffering from erectile dysfunction (impotence), infertility, orchitis, cryptorchidism, hypospadias, balanitis, Peyronie's disease, retrograde ejaculation, etc.

Furthermore, many andrology experts also dedicate themselves to the planning and execution of surgical procedures, such as circumcision, vasectomy (and the opposite intervention) or orchidopexy.
