The golden rules for eye health

  • Drink lots of water to keep the whole body hydrated, including eyes.
  • Do not smoke and do not forget to protect your eyes from solar radiation with a pair of glasses with lenses compliant with the law and UV-A and UV-B filters.
  • Do not abuse contact lenses : do not wear them too many hours during the day to avoid tear film changes, irritation and intolerance.
  • To avoid straining your eyes, avoid reading or writing in the presence of poor lighting .
  • If possible, try to lower the heating or avoid direct exposure to the air conditioning so as not to dry the eyes. Also in the workplace it ensures good ventilation; if the heating is on, to humidify the air, keep a bowl of water near the heater.
  • If you work at the computer, it respects the " 20/20/20 rule ": every 20 minutes you look at a distance equivalent to 20 feet (about 6 meters) for at least 20 seconds. It is a real ocular gymnastic useful to not block the focus always at the same distance.
  • Remember that when you are concentrated your eyelids wink less frequently (even half the time than the norm). This inhibits the physiological moistening of the eye, which therefore tends to become more easily irritated. One more reason to rest your eyes from time to time.
