Detergents: conclusion

In light of the above, it is easy to understand how the choice of a detergent is not simple, especially if the skin to be cleaned is particularly sensitive or affected by some dermatological pathology. In fact, cleansing does not only take away the environmental dirt accumulated on the skin surface, but alters the physiology of the skin to a greater or lesser extent, due to the delipidizing action, the modification of the pH and skin flora, dehydration and increase in TEWL due to alteration of the hydrolipidic film.

In order to formulate a good detergent it is important to know the physiology of the skin and the skin parameters that are altered from it to reduce the risk of irritation and sensitization. Today, the cosmetic formulator has new and multiple substances with detergent action, little irritants and skin-compatible, as well as additives, such as super-greasers, functional ingredients and substances with preservative action with a good toxicological profile, with which it is possible to design pleasant products, respectful of balance of the cutaneous ecosystem and in any case able to effect an effective cleansing.
