Indications COLLIRIO ALFA ® Nafazolina

COLLIRIO ALFA ® is indicated in the topical treatment of irritative states of the eye characterized by burning, redness, itching and tearing.

Mechanism of action COLLIRIO ALFA ® Nafazolina

COLLIRIO ALFA ® owes its therapeutic activity to the presence of its active ingredient Nafazolina.

In fact Nafazoline is a drug with a sympathomimetic action able to bind alpha1 and alpha 2 adrenergic receptors to the level of vascular smooth muscle, reducing the turgor of the inflamed ocular mucosa associated with the edematous condition determined by vascular hyperafflux.

This mechanism of action allows the patient's clinical condition to be significantly improved in a very short time, keeping this condition active for a few hours.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

NAFAZOLINE IN THE TREATMENT OF MYOPATHIC PTOSIS

Acta Neurol Scand. 1993 Apr; 87 (4): 322-4.

Uncini A, De Nicola G, Di Muzio A, Rancitelli G, Colangelo L, Gambi D, Gallenga PE.

Italian study demonstrating that naphazoline can guarantee an improvement of myopathic palpebral ptosis, probably by acting on the alpha two receptors of the levator palpebrae, without however any side effects worthy of note.

NAFAZOLINA AND REDUCTION OF ENDOCULAR PRESSURE

Exp Eye Res. 2001 Mar; 72 (3): 331-9.

Ogidigben MJ, Chu TC, Potter DE.

Study demonstrating that Naphazoline can suppress the production of aqueous humor, resulting in a sensitive ocular hypotensive effect, probably also associated with an inhibitory action against central alpha adrenergic receptors.

NAFAZOLINA INTOXICATIONS

Forensic Sci Int. 2003 Jul 8; 134 (2-3): 234-7.

Musshoff F, Gerschlauer A, Madea B

Clinical case that reports a naphazoline poisoning in a small 6-year-old patient treated with a galenic drug prepared with naphazoline concentrations 80 times higher than the norm.

Method of use and dosage

COLLIRIO ALFA ®

Eye drops of 0.8 mg of Naphazoline nitrate per ml of solution.

It is generally recommended to instill, directly into the conjunctival sac, 1-2 drops of eye drops once or twice a day for a maximum of 4 consecutive days.

In the event that there was no improvement in the symptoms, it would be advisable to consult your doctor and consider the possibility of changing therapy.

Warnings COLLIRIO ALFA ® Nafazolina

Despite the systemic absorption of naphazoline used topically by the eye, it is of little importance that patients suffering from hypertension, heart problems, asthma, hyperglycemia and hyperthyroidism pay particular attention to the use of COLLIRIO ALFA ®, consulting their doctor periodically.

It is also recommended not to exceed the indicated treatment periods, in order to avoid the appearance of unpleasant local side effects.

The presence of benzalkonium chloride in COLLIRIO ALFA ® could be problematic for patients wearing contact lenses or for patients hypersensitive to this excipient.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The use of COLLIRIO ALFA ® during pregnancy and in the subsequent period of breastfeeding should be limited to cases of real need, and always take place under the strict supervision of your doctor.

Interactions

Drug interactions worthy of clinical note are currently unknown.

Contraindications COLLIRIO ALFA ® Nafazolina

Patients treated with antidepressant drugs, and in particular with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, should avoid the simultaneous use of COLLIRIO ALFA ® for potential hypertensive side effects.

Undesirable effects - Side effects
