Product features Taurine powder - Now foods

L-Taurine - which has always been considered a conditionally essential amino acid, differs from common amino acids in both its chemical appearance (presence of the sulphonic group in place of the carboxylic one), and its functional aspect, not being part of protein synthesis. 2-aminoethanosulfonic acid (taurine) is mainly synthesized in the liver, in the pathway of sulfinic acid of cysteine, to be subsequently distributed to various tissues, especially to the heart, skeletal muscle and brain. Taurine is defined as a conditionally essential amino acid, since the concentrations produced endogenously are not always able to satisfy the physiological needs, thus having to resort to food sources of taurine. Introduced through products of animal origin, it is absorbed at intestinal level through two different mechanisms, which see the involvement of the PAT1 transporter when taurine is present in high concentrations and TauT, when instead the levels of this molecule tend to decrease. After the intake, the blood peak is generally reached around 90 minutes to return to basal level after 7 hours.

Taurine, although not part of the protein synthesis process, guarantees the synthesis of bile salts, thus allowing a correct lipid absorption; it also intervenes in regulating cellular hydrosaline flow, in stabilizing cell membranes, modulating the immune response, and the latest experimental evidence also in mediating an antidepressant and anti-epileptic action, as well as cardioprotective action. A recent study has also proposed a new role of taurine in improving the lipidemic profile in obese subjects, while the antidiabetic role has been reconsidered, which seems to be realized not in helping insulin action, but in protecting the pancreatic beta cell from the oxidative insult .

Despite the numerous functions and the various studies present in the literature, this molecule has not yet found a specific therapeutic indication

L-Taurine in sports practice

The use of taurine as a supplement and supplement is mainly due to its addition to energy drinks. Also for this reason, taurine is mistakenly assumed by many, with the conviction of enhancing the body's energy capacity, confusing its activity with that of other substances, such as caffeine or guarana, to which we owe the energizing effect of these drinks.

Given the proposed antioxidant role, integration into sporting practice would make sense if carried out in the search for a valid aid in counteracting the oxidative damage induced by intense physical activity, given that the only benefits obtained by taking taurine alone result in the reduction of oxidative markers, therefore in the prevention of damage induced by the exercise.

Recommended use by company - Taurine powder - Now foods

Dissolve the contents of half scoop (500 mg) with water or other liquid of your choice.

Use in sports Taurine powder - Now foods

Although many studies are still in the experimental phase, the antioxidant effects on men have been recorded for doses of 1.5 to 3 grams per day.

Given the powder formulation of this product, its use could be easier than the one in capsules, which at best reaches the concentration of 500mg each.

Generally it is recommended to take 30 to 40 minutes before training, but in several studies a plasma peak was observed only 90 minutes after intake.

However, the limiting factor is not the timing but the possibility of accumulation. Indeed, the integration of taurine does not seem to be able to modify the muscle pull of this amino acid, seriously compromising the effectiveness and meaning of its supplementation.

How to optimize your business Taurine powder - Now foods

As already mentioned, taurine alone seems to have few benefits, while the synergy with energizers such as caffeine and guarana is particularly studied. In this case, in fact, there is an improvement in both resistive and strength capabilities. It should be noted, however, that in most studies, these benefits are mostly credited to the ergogenic role of caffeine.

Given the proven effects of taurine, it may instead make more sense to associate it with other antioxidants, such as lipoic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E, or coenzyme Q10, in an attempt to counteract the damage induced by intense exercise.

Side effects Taurine powder - Now foods

Not yet well documented are the side effects of this substance, which seems to be safe at a dose of 3 grams per day.

However, cases of hypertension are documented

Nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and migraine were found at high doses.

Precautions for use Taurine powder - Now foods

The product is contraindicated in cases of renal or hepatic disease, cardiovascular disease and / or hypertension, during pregnancy, during lactation, under 12 years.
