What to do in case of a tick bite?

In case of contact with a tick, it is good to extract it as soon as possible, preferably by contacting a doctor who can remove the parasite without crushing it . Eliminating ticks, in fact, is a very delicate process: you have to grab the parasite with thin tweezers and give a slight rotational movement to detach it. If a portion of the rostrum remains in the skin, it must be removed with a sterile needle. Before and after the separation of the tick, it is important not to use oily or irritating substances that could induce a regurgitation of the parasite, accelerating the transmission of any pathogens.

The area must then be disinfected (with hydrogen peroxide, alcohol or iodine-based solutions) and kept under observation for a month. If you see a reddish halo that tends to widen or a low-grade fever, headache, joint pain, swollen lymph nodes and weakness, you need to tell your doctor right away. During the observation period, it is not necessary to take antibiotics to avoid any infections caused by the tick.
