Hypohydrosis - Causes and Symptoms

Related articles: Hypohydrosis

Definition

Hypohidrosis is an abnormal reduction in sweating.

In most cases, it is the result of a skin lesion due to trauma, infection (eg leprosy) or inflammation. Other times, it is caused by the atrophy of the sweat glands, as happens in systemic lupus erythematosus or in Sjögren's syndrome.

Reduced sweating can be caused by drugs (especially anticholinergics) or by exposure to ionizing radiation. Endocrine or skin diseases are also possible; hypohidrosis can also occur in cases of amyloidosis, hypothyroidism, psoriasis and diabetic neuropathy.
