Definition

Cystitis is inflammation of the urinary bladder; in most cases the inflammatory process is caused by bacterial infections ( Escherichia coli ), transmitted to the bladder via the ascending route (microorganisms rise from the urethra or external genitalia). It is more common in women than in men; it is favored - among other things - by the presence of stones in the bladder, prostatic hypertrophy and diabetes.

Further indications

Cystitis is generally associated with symptoms as a frequent urination to urinate associated with burning during urination; the most serious attacks sometimes involve the presence of blood in the urine and a sensation of cramps in the lower abdomen. Antibiotic therapy, associated with the intake of large amounts of fluids, is generally effective in promoting symptom regression and healing.
