Can glaucoma depend on other diseases?

Secondary glaucoma refers to all cases in which other medical conditions cause or contribute to an increase in eye pressure, with damage to the optic nerve and loss of vision.

It can occur as a result of severe eye injury, retinal thrombosis, bleeding, inflammatory states, tumors and advanced cataract cases.

A severe form of glaucoma, called neovascular, can be a result of poorly controlled diabetes or high blood pressure.

Secondary glaucoma can also be induced by the use of some drugs that can increase ocular tone, such as antidepressants, antineoplastics, antihypertensives or steroids taken over a long period of time.
