Syndrome is a term widely used in medicine; its use indicates that complex of symptoms, objective and subjective, which characterizes a specific clinical picture.
This constellation of signs and symptoms is not necessarily linked to a single disease, but may be similar to various morbid forms with different etiopathogenesis.
The term syndrome derives from the Greek Syn-dromos "run together", to indicate, in fact, the fact that the symptoms recur together, presenting themselves more or less at the same time without knowing their precise causes of origin (unknown or unacknowledged etiology) .
The syndrome can be related to the district, organ, apparatus or biological function concerned (eg irritable bowel syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome), with the name of the scholar who first had it described (eg Turner syndrome, Gilbert's syndrome) or with the cause that generated it (eg subacromial conflict syndrome).
Clinical manifestations of Cushing's syndrome, note the variety of signs and symptoms justifying the term syndrome.
