Indications VICKS SINEX ® Oxymetazoline

VICKS SINEX® is indicated for the treatment of cold symptoms as a nasal decongestant

Mechanism of action VICKS SINEX ® Oxymetazoline

Oxymetazoline, active ingredient of VICKS SINEX®, is a molecule with sympathomimetic activity used in clinical settings almost exclusively as a nasal decongestant.

This therapeutic activity is facilitated by the method of administration, which allows the active principles to reach pharmacologically active concentrations exclusively at the level of the respiratory mucosa, minimizing both systemic absorption and the relative biological effects of the drug.

Applied in the nasal cavities, Oxymetazoline binds the alpha 1 adrenergic receptors expressed on the surface of the smooth muscle cells of the small vessels, inducing vasoconstriction and thus reducing nasal congestion through the control of the associated edema.

The therapeutic activity of Oxymetazoline is assisted in VICKS SINEX® by the presence of excipients with balsamic power such as camphor and eucalyptus.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

THE USE OF OSSIMETAZOLIN IN SURGICAL PRACTICE

Lin Chuang Er Bi Yan Hou Ke Za Zhi. 2003 May; 17 (5): 281-2.

Work that tests the efficacy and safety of the decongestant effect of Oxymetazoline in nasal endoscopic surgery, in no way interfering with anesthesia protocols.

OXYIMETAZOLIN IN THE TREATMENT OF EPISTASSIS

Hawaii Med J. 1999 Aug; 58 (8): 210-2.

Interesting work that evaluates the efficacy of oxymetazoline in the treatment of posterior epistaxis, resulting in a significant reduction in bleeding thanks to the vasoconstrictive action.

PHARMACOCINETIC CHARACTERISTICS OF OSSIMETAZOLIN

Br J Clin Pharmacol. 1999 Jul; 48 (1): 53-6.

Clinical trial that studies the pharmacokinetic characteristics of oxymetazoline on healthy individuals, observing important advantages ranging from low inter-individual variability to rapid clinical responsiveness.

Method of use and dosage

VICKS SINEX®

Oxygenazoline 0.05% nasal spray.

A nebulization per nostril every 6-12 hours for a maximum duration of 4 days is generally sufficient to guarantee a clear improvement of the symptomatology, restoring a normal respiratory flow.

Warnings VICKS SINEX ® Oxymetazoline

Given the presence of Oxymetazoline in VICKS SINEX®, it would be advisable to consult your doctor before starting to use it.

In fact, it should be remembered that the use of sympathomimetics could be potentially dangerous in patients suffering from hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, renal pathologies, glaucoma, in elderly patients and in pregnant women.

Prolonged use of these drugs could result in addiction, significantly reducing its clinical efficacy.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

Pregnant women could take VICKS SINEX® exclusively in case of need and clearly under the supervision of their doctor.

Interactions

The patient on antidepressant medication should not take VICKS SINEX® for the duration of the therapy and up to 2 weeks after suspension.

Contraindications VICKS SINEX ® Oxymetazoline

The use of VICKS SINEX® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active substance or to one of its excipients, in patients with prostatic hypertrophy, cardiovascular diseases, hyperthyroidism and glaucoma.

Contraindications also extend to children under the age of 12.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The use of VICKS SINEX® is generally safe and well tolerated.

However, in rare cases local and rarely systemic side effects may occur, evidently linked to the absorption of oxymetazoline from the compromised nasal mucosa.

Ocular pathologies, insomnia, tremor, headache, tachycardia and hypertension represent the systemic side effects potentially associated with the aforementioned therapy, but fortunately very rare.

Note

VICKS SINEX® is a non-prescription drug.
