Cardiovascular diseases and regular exercise

One of the main modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular diseases is poor (if not completely absent) physical exercise .

The reasons that drive people to a sedentary lifestyle are different. According to a US site, www.heart-org, 17% of users would not have time to do regular physical activity, those famous 30 minutes a day that you often hear about.

With regards to these results and to this topic, Russell Pate, a professor at the Department of Motor Activities of the University of South Carolina, argues that it is unthinkable not to keep moving. It states, in fact, that: " the body of the human being is made to carry out an activity of movement and suffers to stand still for a long time ".

Moreover, like other experts in the field, he points out that the 30 minutes of daily physical exercise, beneficial for health, do not necessarily have to be continuous. Who, in fact, does not have enough time, can divide the half hour into at least 2-3 segments of 10-15 minutes each .

Among the recommended activities (because they are beneficial) and which may require a time interval of the aforementioned duration, we recall:

  • Go out to take the dog for a walk. This is beneficial for both the person and the animal
  • Take your child for a walk, perhaps inventing a game that can make walking more lively and active
  • If you go to a mall, take time to walk around looking at the shop windows, shop windows, etc.
  • Park your car in a place far from where you have to go, which forces you to walk for several minutes
  • Do the stairs whenever the opportunity arises
  • Take a walk whenever you plan to make a long phone call to a friend and relative
  • After dinner, make a habit of going out for a short walk, perhaps with your partner
