NETILDEX ® is a drug based on dexamethasone disodium sulfate and Netilmicin sulfate
THERAPEUTIC GROUP: Ophthalmology - Anti-inflammatories and antimicrobials in combination
IndicationsAction mechanismStudies and clinical effectiveness Usage and dosage instructionsWarnings Pregnancy and lactationInteractionsContraindicationsUndesirable effectsIndications NETILDEX ® Dexamethasone + Netilmicina
NETILDEX ® is indicated in the treatment of inflammatory conditions of the eye especially when potentially exposed to the risk of bacterial infection.
Mechanism of action NETILDEX ® Dexamethasone + Netilmicina
NETILDEX ® combines two very important active principles with substantially different but complementary biological and therapeutic activities that adequately complete the therapeutic profile of the drug.
More precisely the dexamethasone is a high activity steroidal anti-inflammatory, endowed with an intact local biological activity able to modulate the inflammatory event, inhibiting upstream the expression of inflammatory mediators by controlling the functionality of the enzyme phospholipase A2, while Netilmicina is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with a broad spectrum of action effective both against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, blocking protein synthesis by inhibition of the 30S ribosomal subunit.
The pharmacokinetic characteristics of the two active ingredients allow the drug to perform an effective and safe topical action, significantly reducing the risk of potential systemic adverse reactions.
Studies carried out and clinical efficacy
NETILDEX IN EXTERNAL EYE INFLAMMATORY DISEASES
Clin Ophthalmol. 2013; 7: 1239-44. doi: 10.2147 / OPTH.S44455. Epub 2013 Jun 24.
Recent study demonstrating how the use of NETILDEX can be effective and safe in reducing the inflammatory symptoms complained of by patients suffering from external eye inflammation potentially at risk of bacterial overlap.
NETILMYCIN AGAINST RESISTANT ANTIBIOTIC MICRORGANISMS
Curr Eye Res. 2013 Aug; 38 (8): 811-6. doi: 10.3109 / 02713683.2013.780624. Epub 2013 Mar 27.
Work demonstrating how the Netilmicina used by ophthalmic means represents the most effective antibiotic for the treatment of ocular infections sustained by resistant antibiotic microorganisms.
POST-OPERATIVE PROPHYLAXIS WITH NETILMICINE
Eur J Ophthalmol. 2008 Jul-Aug; 18 (4): 512-6.
Very interesting work that shows how the use of Netilmicina can reduce conjunctival flora, significantly lowering the risk of post-operative endophthalmitis.
Method of use and dosage
NETILDEX ®
Eye drops and ophthalmic gel with 1 mg of dexamethasone and 3 mg of Netilmicina.
The definition of the dosage and of the relative dosage scheme is up to the doctor after having carefully evaluated the patient's health status and the severity of the clinical picture.
As a general rule, it is recommended to instill a drop of eye drops or gel, directly into the conjunctival sac, 4 times a day.
Warnings NETILDEX ® Dexamethasone + Netilmicina
NETILDEX ® therapy must necessarily be defined and supervised by your doctor in order to carefully assess its efficacy and safety.
The use of NETILDEX ® is exclusively ophthalmic and must be limited to the time strictly necessary to guarantee the remission of the symptoms, given the potential side effects linked to the abuse of antibiotics and corticosteroids such as selection of resistant antibiotic germs, increased ocular tone or significant lowering of immune defenses.
Furthermore, NETILDEX ® therapy should be performed with the utmost caution in patients suffering from serious eye diseases characterized by thinning of the cornea, also considering that the presence of benzalkonium chloride among the excipients may increase the risk of adverse reactions.
PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
The absence of clinical data to evaluate the safety profile of the two active ingredients for the health of the fetus and the infant clearly extends the contraindications to the use of NETILDEX ® also to pregnancy and the subsequent period of breastfeeding.
Interactions
The patient receiving NETILDEX ® should avoid the simultaneous intake, above all by ophthalmic, of antibiotics with nephrotoxic and ototoxic effects.
Contraindications NETILDEX ® Dexamethasone + Netilmicina
The use of NETILDEX ® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active substance or to one of its excipients, in patients suffering from intraocular hypertension, viable or fungal infections and corenal lesions.
NETILDEX ® is also contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women and in children under the age of 3 years.
Undesirable effects - Side effects
Treatment with NETILDEX ®, especially if it lasts a long time, could lead to the appearance of local side effects such as intraocular hypertension, viral and fungal infections, conjunctival hyperemia, burning and itching.
Note
NETILDEX ® is a prescription-only drug.
