Scialagogus is defined as the drug or preparation capable of secreting greater quantities of saliva. The latter is a hyposmotic fluid secreted by the salivary glands found in the oral cavity.

Saliva is composed of water, mineral salts, enzymes and immunoglobulins. Among the most active scialagogal products we recall those emetic and cholinergic drugs, which act on the salivary glands.
