Further indications

The symptoms of gout generally affect the big toe (first metatarsal-phalangeal joint), but they can also affect other joints, such as the ankle, the heel, the knee, the wrist, the elbow, the fingers or the spine. The pain triggered by an acute gout attack often arises abruptly, at night, is burning and generally associated with swelling, erythema, joint stiffness and heat. Painful symptoms are exacerbated by movement and pressure, so much so that sometimes simple contact with the sheet is enough to trigger violent pains. If left untreated, the symptoms of gout normally last for 5 to 10 days and then disappear. Possibility of relapses and complications (urinary calculi, tophi, frequent relapses) when the disease is not adequately treated.
