E151- BRILLIANT BLACK BN OR BLACK PN (CI 28440)

Brilliant black BN is an azo dye of black color, of synthetic origin.

This dye can be contained in various foods, such as in German caviar, fish eggs, licorice, sweets, creams, ice creams, popsicles, sauces and some sweets.

It is advisable to consume it within the maximum recommended dose, because it can cause allergic reactions especially in those who have an allergy to aspirin or are asthmatic.

Brilliant black BN, in combination with benzoates, can cause hyperactivity in children.

Some scholars think that it could also be a carcinogen, but there is no certainty about it.

ADI DOSE: 5 mg per kg of body weight.
