Indications OLUX ® Clobetasol

OLUX ® is indicated in the treatment of scalp dermatoses generally not responsive to therapies with other corticosteroids.

Mechanism of action OLUX ® Clobetasol

Clobetasol proprionate, active ingredient of OLUX ®, is a corticosteroid belonging to the fourth group, and therefore defined as very powerful, with effective therapeutic activities and well characterized pharmacokinetic properties. In fact following topical application, part of this active principle, unfortunately variable from individual to individual, is absorbed and subjected to the normal processes of hepatic and biliary disposal. The remaining portion, on the other hand, carries out its therapeutic activity on site, with the typical mechanisms of corticosteroids, which include the induction of the expression of Lipocortin, a phospholipase A2 inhibitory protein, an enzyme that initiates the cascade of events leading to the synthesis of phlogosis mediators . This complex molecular mechanism of action is concretized with a clear improvement of the complained symptomatology thanks to the antiedemigina, anti-inflammatory and antipruriginosa action exerted by the Clobetasol.

Clinical trial that demonstrates the effectiveness of Clobetasol-based foam in the treatment of chronic dermatitis of the hands, often responsible for serious social problems and a marked deterioration in the quality of life of affected patients.

Method of use and dosage

OLUX ® 500 mcg dermal foam of Clobetasol propinated for grams of foam. Given the potency of Clobetasol and the significant systemic absorption associated with topical therapy, dosages and timing of intake should be defined by the physician based on the clinical characteristics of the patient and the therapeutic goals to be achieved. In adults, generally, 2 applications per day of the appropriate amount of medicine are recommended directly on the region affected by the injurious process.

Warnings OLUX ® Clobetasol

The use of OLUX ® must necessarily be preceded by a careful medical examination and supervised by medical personnel given the potential biological effects of systemically absorbed Clobetasol. In fact, studies show that the proportion of the absorbed active principle can cause an inhibition, due to transient and immediately reversible luck, of adrenal function, thus altering the normal balance of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. It is also important to reiterate the importance of compliance with the appropriate sanitary regulations concerning the use of OLUX ® in order to limit the incidence of potential side effects and to optimize the effectiveness of the therapy.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The systemic absorption of Clobetasol extends the contraindications to the use of OLUX ® also to pregnancy and the subsequent period of breastfeeding given the documented mutagenic and toxic effects of Clobetasol for the health of the fetus and infant.

Interactions

At the present time, known pharmacological interactions are not known, although it should be remembered that the simultaneous intake of cytochrome inhibitor drugs may increase blood concentrations of the amount of corticosteroid absorbed.

Contraindications OLUX ® Clobetasol

The use of OLUX ® is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to the active ingredient or to one of its excipients, in patients suffering from inadequately treated viral, bacterial and fungal infections, atopic dermatitis, acne vulgaris, rosacea, burns and perianal and genital itching . The use of OLUX ® is also contraindicated in pediatric patients.
