Pubalgia symptoms

Definition

Pubalgia is a painful syndrome caused by an insertional tendinopathy of an inflammatory nature. This condition mainly affects the insertions of the adductor muscles of the thigh. On the other hand, pubalgia with pain in the abdominal rectum insertion is less frequent, resulting in excessive strain in flexion-extension of the trunk.

The inflammatory process is generally established following functional overload or repeated micro-traumas. Among the risk factors that can favor pubalgia are contractures of some muscles, congenital pathologies of the hip and the presence of a marked lumbar curvature.

Although groin is common in those who practice sports at a professional level, it can also affect women during pregnancy.

  • Articolar pains
  • Muscle pains

Further indications

The main symptom of groin is muscle-tendon pain (myentesitis) in the groin area, which usually occurs during muscle contraction. This can be located in the frontal and lower region of the abdomen or at the level of the pubic symphysis (joint between the two pubic bones). Sometimes the pain radiates to the inside of the thigh.

Publicalgia is treated by rest, physiotherapy and anti-inflammatories.

Recovery can take a long time. To alleviate disorders, physical therapies, such as shock waves or laser therapy, may be indicated. After the acute phase, it is useful to follow a rehabilitation program with stretching and muscle strengthening exercises. Surgery is only necessary in rare cases.
