Indications Evion ® - Tocopherol

EVION ® is indicated in the prevention and treatment of vitamin E deficiency states even when symptoms are present.

Mechanism of action Evion ® - Tocopherol

Vitamin E deficiency, fortunately rare today and limited exclusively to particular groups of patients at risk such as those suffering from severe liver disease and malabsorption syndromes, manifests itself in a series of serious neurological symptoms such as peripheral neuropathy and ataxia, both muscular like myopathy and above all cardiovascular, with a significant increase in the risk of developing atherosclerotic pathologies and associated complications.

This important symptomatic concert is due to the biological action of alpha tocopherol, which is particularly important in protecting the cell, especially the lipid component, from oxidation induced by reactive oxygen species.

The damage induced by these highly reactive molecules is realized with the lipid peroxidation responsible for the loss of membrane functionality on the one hand and with the increased risk of the formation of atherosclerotic plaques on the other, due to the oxidation of the lipoprotein LDL particles.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

1. VITAMIN E AND PROSTATIC CARCINOMA IN SMOKERS

The important observation of the inverse relationship present at the blood level between levels of alpha tocopherol and testosterone, in chronic smokers, has allowed to deepen from a molecular point of view the greater risk of developing prostate cancer in smokers, probably attributing to an excess of androgenizing metabolites testosterone this effect.

2. VITAMIN AND LIPID METABOLISM IN DIABETIC PATIENTS

Diabetes Res Clin Pract. 2011 May; 92 (2): 253-60. Epub 2011 Mar 2.

Countercurrent work which has shown that the simultaneous intake of alpha lipoic acid and vitamin E does not guarantee a significant improvement in the concentrations of lipids circulating in the blood of patients with type II diabetes. The study aims to inform readers and experts about the preventive role of this vitamin rather than therapeutic.

3. VITAMIN AND RADIOTHERAPY PROTECTION

J Membr Biol. 2011 Mar; 240 (2): 83-8. Epub 2011 Feb 16.

Very interesting study that shows how the intake of vitamin E protects cancer patients with oral cancer and undergoes radiation therapy, from the side effects of radiotherapy on the erythrocyte membrane, and therefore on its functionality.

Method of use and dosage

EVION ®

Ampoules for oral use containing 300 mg of alpha tocopheryl acetate;

100 mg coated tablets of alpha tocopherol acetate;

Soft capsules of 300 mg of alpha tocopherol acetate:

the dosage used, generally between 100 and 300 mg of alpha tocopheryl acetate, in light of the bioavailability profile of approximately 20 - 40% of the total dose taken, is sufficient to satisfy even the most demanding needs, allowing among other things a recovery of stocks in the event of relative impoverishment.

Taking EVION ® should be supervised by a doctor.

Warnings Evion ® - Tocopherol

In light of the pharmacological interactions expected for alpha tocopherol, and treated later, it would be advisable to consult your doctor before taking EVION ®.

It is important that the drug is not within the reach of children, in order to avoid incorrect intake and accidental poisoning, responsible for fortunately transient gastrointestinal side effects.

EVION ® in coated tablets contains lactose, therefore its use is not recommended in patients with lactase enzyme deficiency, glucose / galactose malabsorption syndrome and lactose intolerance.

The presence of soybean oil and olive oil may be responsible for the occurrence of adverse hypersensitivity reactions.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The intake of alpha tocopherol is indicated in pregnancy, especially in high-risk pregnancies, to support the antioxidant capacity of the cell, provided it takes place under the supervision of a competent doctor.

Interactions

Alpha tocopherol could:

  • Increase the biological effect of oral anticoagulants, anti-aggregants and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, thus increasing the risk of bleeding;
  • Strengthen the hypoglycemic effect of insulin, thus requiring an adaptation of hypoglycemic therapy;
  • Support the therapeutic activity of digital.

Contraindications Evion ® - Tocopherol

EVION ® is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient and its excipients.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

Although at therapeutic doses the intake of alpha tocopherol is free of clinically significant side effects, it is useful instead to remember how excessive dosages could be responsible for transient gastrointestinal disorders, whereas the long-term intake of alterations of blood coagulation characteristics with a relative increased risk of bleeding.

Note

EVION ® is a SOP drug, without a prescription requirement, therefore it can be freely sold in pharmacies.
