What are viral haemorrhagic fevers?

Viral hemorrhagic fevers are a group of acute systemic infectious diseases caused by various viruses ( arenavirus, bunyavirus, filovirus and flavivirus ). Most of these etiological agents are transmitted to humans by carrier animals (rodents or insects).

Viral hemorrhagic fevers are characterized by sudden onset hyperpyrexia, arthromial pains and hemorrhagic manifestations, often so severe as to lead to death within a few days.

The most well-known viral haemorrhagic fevers include Ebola and Marburg fever, Lassa fever, hantavirus infections and Rift Valley fever, yellow fever and dengue fever.
