Indications NETAN ® - Ebastina

NETAN ® is used in the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.

Mechanism of action NETAN ® - Ebastina

NETAN ® is a medicinal specialty used in the treatment of allergic manifestations, especially those of a respiratory or dermatological nature, thanks to the presence of Ebastine, a second generation antihistamine with antagonist activity against H1 receptors.

In this way Ebastine is able to control the edemigenic activity and the bronchospastic activity induced by the activation of the aforementioned receptors at the cutaneous and respiratory level, significantly improving the complained symptomatology without negatively affecting some signs classically linked to first generation antihistamines such as cardiac, psychomotor and cognitive disorders.

All this is possible thanks to the pharmacokinetic characteristics of Ebastine, which prevent it from crossing the blood-brain barrier, and therefore also its biological function, while preserving the very high affinity towards H1 receptors.

Following hepatic metabolism and after intense biological activity, Ebastine in the form of different catabolites, including Carebastina, is eliminated mainly via the kidney.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

THE EBASTINE IN THE TREATMENT OF ALLERGIC DISORDERS

Expert Opin Pharmacother. 2004 Aug; 5 (8): 1807-13.

Study demonstrating that Ebastine is safe, effective and well tolerated even in the smallest patients, thus representing an effective pharmacological treatment in the course of allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.

MODULATION OF THE DOSAGE OF THE EBASTINE IN PATIENTS WITH ALTERATE HEPATIC FUNCTIONALITY

Clin Pharmacokinet. 2004; 43 (2): 121-9.

Work that, by testing the efficacy of Ebastine in clinical practice, identifies the important differences from the pharmacokinetic point of view, in patients suffering from liver diseases, for which it becomes absolutely necessary to adequately modulate the doses.

THE MECHANISMS OF ACTION OF THE EBASTINE

Methods Find Exp Clin Pharmacol. 2003 Mar; 25 (2): 111-5.

Work that reaffirms the effectiveness of Ebastine, emphasizing how its therapeutic success can be traced back not only to the inhibitory action against H1 histamine receptors but also to the important anti-inflammatory potential.

Method of use and dosage

NETAN ®

Ebastine 10 - 20 mg coated tablets.

The daily dosage of Ebastine should be defined by the physician based on the patient's physiopathological characteristics and the severity of the current clinical picture.

Despite this, the daily administration of 10 mg is effective in the symptomatic treatment of idiopathic urticaria and allergic rhinitis, for which however, especially in clinically relevant cases, it could be useful to double the dosage.

Warnings NETAN ® - Ebastina

The use of NETAN ® should be preceded by a medical examination to assess the prescriptive appropriateness and the possible presence of conditions incompatible with antihistamine therapy.

More precisely, particular caution in administering Ebastine should be reserved for patients suffering from liver, kidney and heart disease patients.

NETAN ® contains lactose, therefore its use would be poorly indicated in patients with lactase enzyme deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome and rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance.

In order to obtain adequate results, it is recommended to stop taking antihistamines at least 48 hours before allergy tests.

Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

The use of NETAN ® is generally contraindicated during pregnancy and in the subsequent period of breastfeeding, given the ability of Ebastine to cross the placental barrier and the breast filter, exposing itself to the fetus and the infant to pharmacologically active concentrations.

Interactions

The patient receiving NETAN ® should avoid the simultaneous intake of active ingredients with cardiotoxic activity and drugs metabolised at the liver level, in order to preserve the therapeutic efficacy of Ebastine and at the same time limit the potential side effects.

Contraindications NETAN ® - Ebastina

The use of NETAN ® is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to one of its excipients or to other structurally related molecules, in patients suffering from severe liver disease and in children under the age of 12 years.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The use of Ebastine, especially when prolonged over time, could lead to the appearance of dyspepsia, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, asthenia, edema, abnormal liver function, insomnia, nervousness, mental disorders, tachycardia and only rarely hypersensitivity dermatological reactions to the active ingredient.

Note

NETAN ® is a prescription drug prescribed by a doctor.
