Prostate cancer: some myths to debunk about causes and risk factors

In the past it was believed that, to promote prostate cancer, were alcohol abuse, cigarette smoking, the practice of vasectomy and intense sexual activity.

Today, thanks to the investigations carried out by different research groups, it has been shown that there is no correlation between the aforementioned situations and prostate cancer.

The only risk factors for which a decisive influence has been confirmed are advanced age (generally over 50), a diet low in fruit and vegetables, too much meat and fatty foods (especially those containing saturated fats), obesity, poor physical exercise, being African-American and finally a certain family predisposition (usually those who have one or more family members with prostate cancer is likely to have the same disease).
