E242 - DIMETHYLBICARBONATE OR DIMETHYL BICARBONATE

Dimethyl bicarbonate is a synthetically produced preservative, frequently used in aromatic alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, canned teas and herbal teas. When it decomposes, it releases large amounts of methanol.

There are conflicting theories about its toxicity: some think that it is very dangerous, therefore to avoid, others instead support the contrary view. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, it is advisable not to use it excessively and frequently.
