Sinusitis is an acute or chronic inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, which occurs following a viral infection of the upper airways. Due to inflammation, the nasal mucosa increases in volume, partially obstructing the communication blocks between the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavities. The obstruction of this passage makes it difficult to eliminate mucus, which accumulates in the paranasal sinuses, becoming a fertile ground for bacterial development. The most frequent symptoms of sinusitis are: congested nose, headache, pain in the head, teeth, cheekbones and finally high temperature caused by bacterial infection. Generally, sinusitis resolves in a few days and the pain can be counteracted by taking acetaminophen or ibuprofen based drugs.
