BIOMAG ® Cimetidine

BIOMAG ® is a drug based on Cimetidine.

THERAPEUTIC GROUP: Antireflux - Antiulcer - H2-receptor antagonists

Indications BIOMAG ® Cimetidine

BIOMAG ® is useful in the treatment of all those morbid states associated with gastric hyperacidity, for which a reduction in the acid content of the stomach is required.

Duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, esophagitis, duodenitis and gastritis, are some examples for which therapy with BIOMAG ® is most indicated

Mechanism of action BIOMAG ® Cimetidine

The oral intake of BIOMAG ® allows the cimetidine contained in the medicine to be rapidly absorbed at the level of the gastro-intestinal tract, guaranteeing the achievement of maximum plasma concentrations in just 60-90 minutes.

Once absorbed systemically, this active ingredient binds the receptors for histamine H2 secreted by the parietal cells of the gastric glands, antagonizing them and thus reducing the acid secretion of the stomach.

In this way the therapeutic role of BIOMAG ® is effectively fulfilled, guaranteeing a reduction in stomach acidity - both in basal conditions and after the ingestion of meals - which lasts for at least hours.

After its activity, cimetidine, following a hepatic metabolism, is eliminated mainly through the renal filter.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

1. CIMETIDINE AND ANTI-CANCER ROLE

Cimetidine has risen to the headlines in recent years, due to its demonstrated ability to improve the survival of patients with colorectal cancer, probably through the inhibition of the meta-statization process. In vitro studies have shown that cimetidine can reduce the expression of adhesion molecules on the surface of endothelial cells, thus inhibiting the contact and subsequent passage of tumor cells.

2. CIMETIDINE AND METABOLISM OF ALCOHOL

This interesting study shows how the intake of H2 histamine receptor antagonists, such as cimetidine, can reduce the function of gastric alcohol dehydrogenase, significantly reducing the metabolism of this compound. In fact, higher blood alcohol levels were found in patients who had used these medicines

3. ANTIOXIDANT ROLE OF CIMETIDINE

In addition to the important antiulcer action, now documented by many and dated studies, cimetidine has proved particularly useful, also in combating oxidative stress, known to aggravate the health conditions of patients suffering from various pathologies. More precisely, this active ingredient has proved capable of chelating heavy metals, making them unavailable for the production of free radicals.

Method of use and dosage

BIOMAG ® ® tablets of 200, 400 and 800mg of cimetidine:

the therapeutic treatment for the various pathological manifestations, for which BIOMAG ® is indicated, should foresee initial dosages of about 800 mg daily, to eventually increase them in case of reduced therapeutic efficacy.

The treatment should be prolonged for at least 4 weeks, even if the symptoms disappear, and never exceed the maximum dosage of 2 grams per day.

In any case, medical supervision is strictly necessary, so that the dosage chosen and the relative timing can be perfectly adapted to the needs of the patient in relation to his physio-pathological picture.

Warnings BIOMAG ® Cimetidine

Hepatic metabolism and subsequent renal filtration, which cimetidine encounters, require careful medical monitoring when BIOMAG ® is administered in patients with reduced liver or kidney function.

Furthermore, the ability of the active ingredient to mask some of the most important symptoms during gastro-intestinal pathologies, even serious ones, could delay the time of diagnosis, making the subsequent therapeutic approach ineffective.

To avoid this unpleasant inconvenience, it would be preferable, before taking this medicine, to carefully check the patient's clinical situation.

Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, dizziness and dizziness, described following the use of BIOMAG ® could make the use of machinery and driving vehicles dangerous.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

Intake of BIOMAG ® during pregnancy or the subsequent period of breastfeeding should be limited to cases of real need, and under strict medical supervision.

The various experimental data, which show the ability of the active principle to pass through both the placental filter and the excretion in breast milk, and the absence of clinical trials on pregnant women, do not in fact make it possible to clearly establish the safety profile of this drug, significantly limiting its use.

Interactions

The cimetidine contained in BIOMAG ® is able to determine a marked inhibition of the oxidative enzymes belonging to the cytochrome p450 family, involved in the forefront of the metabolism of many drugs.

This interaction could therefore determine a variation in the pharmacokinetic properties of different active ingredients such as warfarin, theophylline, fenitorin, beta blockers and diazepam, enhancing the possible side effects.

In light of this evidence, it would be useful to adjust the dosage of the aforementioned drugs, in order to avoid unpleasant adverse reactions.

On the contrary, the concomitant intake of antacids could reduce the absorption of cimetidine, limiting its therapeutic efficacy.

Contraindications BIOMAG ® Cimetidine

BIOMAG ® is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity already known to cimetidine or to one of its excipients.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The administration of BIOMAG ® has been accompanied, particularly in some patients at risk, by the appearance of various side effects, some of which are clinically relevant.

Fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, rash, abnormal heart rhythm, reduced liver and kidney function, dizziness and headache, are some of the most observed manifestations.

Fortunately, all of the above symptoms returned promptly following discontinuation of therapy.
