Chemical constituents
- Alkaloids, such as vasicin and vasicinone, with bronchodilator activity similar to that of theophylline (mechanism of action probably of the anticholinergic type).
- Bromhexine.
Adatoda in Herbalist: Property of Adatoda
To the alkaloids refers the bronchodilator action, which makes the plant indicated in case of bronchial asthma, cough, bronchial hyperreactivity, asthmatic bronchitis; with bromexine, depolymerizing mucolytic activity is ascribed.
Contraindications
Ascertained hypersensitivity to one or more components. In phytotherapy, the adatoda is considered a uterine stimulant, therefore in pregnancy it is best not to take formulations containing extracts of Adatoda.
