Definition

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in industrialized countries. Many new cases of lung cancer could be avoided by abolishing smoking. both active and passive. The risk of developing this neoplasm increases in relation to the number of cigarettes smoked over time. By quitting, even after smoking for many years, you can significantly reduce your chances of getting sick. Protecting yourself also from exposure to asbestos, passive smoking and radioactive material completes the picture of primary prophylaxis.

Further indications

Normally, in the early stages of its development, lung cancer causes no particular signs and symptoms. When these occur, however, they are generally non-specific as they are common to most lung diseases. Cough is the most frequent and often the first symptom to appear; when this is already present, variations in its characteristics are common, such as intensity, duration and consistency of the sputum. Even the hemophysis (traces of blood in the phlegm) is one of the most frequent symptoms but, unlike coughing, it is hardly overlooked by the patient.
