Product features HMB - Anderson

Hydroxybetyl methyl butyrate - produced starting from the ketoacid alpha ketoisocaproate, in turn obtained by transamination of the amino acid leucine, hydroxy methyl butyrate, with mechanisms not yet fully known, in the regulation of protein homeostasis.

Experimental evidence suggests a direct involvement of this molecule in:

  1. Activate mTOR, resulting in increased protein synthesis;
  2. Reduce protein degradation, via ubiquitin proteasome;
  3. Protect the cell from ROS-related oxidative insult;
  4. Reduce the activation of caspases, preserving the cell from apoptosis (programmed cell death).

From the application point of view, this would translate into an improvement in protein turnover, an increase in muscle mass and an antioxidant and cytoprotective activity. The various studies, many of which are still in the experimental phase, have demonstrated the possibility of preventing cachexia in subjects suffering from neoplasia or AIDS, in maintaining muscle mass in elderly individuals, in strengthening the immune system (increasing the faculty capacity) and in improve the lipidemic profile.

Regarding applications in the sports field, we are evaluating:

  1. Ergogenic effect (increase in strength and resistance);
  2. Antioxidant and protective effect against damage induced by intense physical exercise;
  3. Redistribution of body composition (increase in lean mass and decrease in fat mass).

Rational integration into HMB sports practice - Anderson

From the careful rereading of scientifically valid publications, concerning HMB, very contrasting data emerge regarding its effectiveness in sports practice. In fact, several studies show an increase in strength and resistive capacity, with a possible improvement in oxidative metabolism, reduction of markers of muscle damage - such as creatinine and lactic dehydrogenase - and an increase in lean mass. Others, however, are very critical, not detecting any kind of benefit.

Although it is still not possible to draw definitive conclusions, given the low number of individuals recruited for these studies, the integration with HMB seems to be particularly effective for untrained subjects, while it would be of little use in athletes, as in the case of non-administrations continued for at least 3/4 weeks.

Recommended use by the company - HMB - Anderson

It is recommended to take 2 tablets a day, preferably with meals. It is advisable not to chew the tablets.

Mode of use in HMB sports practice - Anderson

The dose recommended by the studies, and most used in sports, is that of 3 grams of HMB per day, administered at 3 different times of the day, in order to reduce renal elimination.

The administration of 1 g at a time was chosen both for the half-life of about 2.5 hours and for the lowering of plasma levels (about 9 h), and for the levels of urinary excretion, which stood at minimum around the 14%.

Given the product in question, with 750 mg capsules, the intake could be divided into one capsule in the morning, 1 pre workout, 1 post workout and one before going to bed.

It is necessary to specify that a particularly studied supplementary protocol is difficult to put precisely, due to the absence of data relating to the method of distribution of the compound, and to the biological effects.

How to optimize your HMB - Anderson business

In the literature there are studies that show the effectiveness of HMB in synergy with glutamine and arginine, in improving protein turnover, and counteracting the cachectic effect manifested in some serious pathologies.

A similar effect was observed on healthy and elderly individuals, after a year of supplementation with arginine, lysine and HMB.

The synergy between creatine and HMB seems instead ineffective.

In addition, it could also be theoretically justified to administer simultaneously with BCAA to preserve muscle mass from proteolysis induced by intense exercise.

HMB - Anderson side effects

The administration of HMB appears to be well tolerated at doses between 3 and 6 grams per day, and well documented in the literature even for several weeks of administration.

Animal studies also show how very high doses are tolerated.

A reduction in blood pressure was recorded in some studies following the administration of HMB, but this appears to be due to the presence of calcium in the product.

Precautions for use HMB - Anderson

The product is contraindicated in cases of renal or hepatic disease, cardiovascular disease and / or hypertension, during pregnancy, during lactation, under 12 years and for adolescents not yet trained.

In the event of prolonged use (over 6/8 weeks), medical advice is required.
