Vast medial

The vast medial is one of the four heads that form the quadriceps muscle. It originates from the medial lip of the rough line.

It is inserted into the patella with a tendon common to the other garments.

With its action it extends the leg and stabilizes the patella (or patella), opposing its tendency to dislocate itself outwards. Being the most important stabilizer of the knee joint, its development is very important in order to prevent injuries in this very delicate area of the body.

The patella is a sesamoid bone that protects the knee joint. It also increases the effectiveness of the quadriceps by bringing forward its traction force.

It is the major producer of strength during the movement of extension of the leg on the thigh (therefore it is the muscle most activated in the exercise called "leg extension").

It is innervated by the femoral nerve (L2, L4).
