Herbal teas for hemorrhoids

Herbal teas against hemorrhoids mainly exploit the properties:

  • soothing, gelling and emollients of drugs rich in soluble and mucilage fibers (psyllium seeds, roots, guar gum, mallow and linseed). If taken together with generous amounts of water, for example in the form of herbal tea for mucilaginous drugs, they resolve constipation and decrease the efforts for defecation (factors aggravating hemorrhoids).
  • capillarotrope and venotropic drugs able to improve venous tone and reduce capillary fragility: horse chestnut (seeds), centella asiatica (aerial parts), ginkgo biloba (leaves), witch hazel (leaves), black currant (fruits), rusco (root), blueberry (fruit), red vine (leaves).

Useful against hemorrhoids are also all those drugs with anti-inflammatory, anesthetic and haemostatic properties (ability to stop bleeding).

Witch hazel (leaves and bark) has all these characteristics and as such is widely used in the preparation of anti-haemorrhoidal creams and teas.

Many of the plant sources mentioned here are not used in the form of herbal teas, but of ointments or dry extracts for oral use. In the treatment of hemorrhoids, and most of the pathological conditions, infusions can be helpful, but preparations such as tinctures, dried extracts, tablets, capsules and suppositories are generally more effective.

Apart from the relief and the beneficial effect obtainable by regularly sipping herbal teas against hemorrhoids, it is very important to adopt some specific precautions:

  • to abolish spices (pepper, nutmeg, chilli, etc.), but also spicy and spicy foods (salami, sausages, mortadella, etc.).
  • abolish chocolate, alcoholic beverages and exciting ones like tea and coffee
  • limiting refined carbohydrates in favor of fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole wheat bread and lots of water; Recommended foods include apples, pears, oats, boiled carrots, spelled and green leafy vegetables
  • limiting the consumption of astringent foods, such as rice and unripe bananas
  • avoid excessive efforts, such as transporting heavy loads, and sports such as cycling, horse riding or motorcycling.
