Risk factors of sick building syndrome

It is from the 70s that doctors and researchers are trying to understand what causes the sick building syndrome, a strange condition whose symptomatology appears only after frequent visits to certain buildings or work structures.

To date, however, the various studies relating to the causes have not yet led to any certain conclusion, but only to various hypotheses.

One of these hypotheses concerns risk factors and claims that they could have a decisive influence:

  • The little ventilation of the room
  • Low humidity levels in the room
  • The high temperature or the different temperatures inside the building's rooms
  • Dust particles, fibers that make up carpets or fungal spores, dispersed in the air of the room
  • Chemical pollutants dispersed in the air, produced by printers or photocopiers
  • Physical factors, such as the electrostatic charges produced by computers
  • Poor cleaning of the premises where workers spend most of the time
  • Inadequate ventilation in rooms where printers and photocopiers are used
  • Bad lighting
  • Inadequate personal protection equipment
  • Stress and inappropriate working conditions
