In any case, we remind you of the importance of avoiding self-treatment and to consult your doctor beforehand to ascertain the absence of contraindications and drug interactions.

The ulcer is a rupture, a circumscribed erosion of the skin or mucosa of the digestive tract, which fails to heal and is often related to a local inflammatory process.

In common parlance, when one simply speaks of "ulcer" one generally refers to peptic ulcer, which can affect the stomach (gastric ulcer) or the first part of small intestine (duodenal ulcer). At the basis of the disease there is an imbalance between aggressive factors for the mucosa (acid and pepsin, gastrolesive substances, bacteria, etc.) and defensive barriers (mucus and bicarbonate secretion, mucosal blood flow, cell turnover).

The causes of the breakdown of the balance between defense mechanisms and damaging factors, in favor of the latter, are complex and not yet fully known. The presence of Helicobacter pylori is the cause of peptic ulcer in 70-80% of cases, but the disease can also be caused by an excessive use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Medicinal plants and supplements useful against peptic ulcer

Hypericum, Licorice, Passionflower, Chamomile, Comfrey, Calendula, Alginates and mucilaginous drugs that cover the gastric mucosa protecting it from aggressive agents: Melissa, Altea, Mallow, Icelandic lichen, Calendula. Mother tinctures with a healing effect: salicaria, strawberry.

Garlic can be helpful for the eridication of Helicobacter pylori, however it tends to stimulate gastric secretion, so it is contraindicated in the presence of an ulcer. For this purpose you can instead use the essential oil of cloves.
