ADISTEROL ® - Ascorbic acid

ADISTEROL ® is a drug based on retinol acetate + colecalciferol in an oily solution

Indications ADISTEROL ® - Retinol + Colecalciferol

ADISTEROL ® is used in the prevention and treatment of vitamin A and D deficiency states that are observed in pathological conditions such as rickets, dermatological pathologies, osteomalacia, dentition disorders, eye-visual disturbances and spasmophilia.

Mechanism of action ADISTEROL ® - Retinol + Colecalciferol

Vitamin A and vitamin D, are micronutrients belonging to the family of liposoluble vitamins, fundamental in the regulation of cellular activity of bone metabolism.

More precisely, retinol (vitamin A), by interacting through specific nuclear receptors, is able to reprogram cell gene expression, modulating proliferative and differentiation activity.

All this translates for example into an enhancement of the immune system, thanks to the trophic action on passive barriers such as the skin and mucous membranes and the maturation of the lymphocytes, in support of hematopoietic activity, necessary to guarantee the correct turn-over of blood cells, and an improvement in bone metabolism, thanks to the induced potentiation of osteoblastic cells, cells deputed to the deposition of bone matrix.

Also very important is the biological role of retinol for sight, together with opsin in the synthesis of a pigment known as rhodopsin, necessary to guarantee night vision, so that vitamin A deficiencies are often associated with night blindness.

Cholecalciferol instead, the most absorbable form of vitamin D, following two successive hydroxylations on the liver and kidney, necessary to make the compound biologically active, intervenes:

  • In calcium-phosphorus metabolism, increasing the intestinal absorption of calcium present in the diet, facilitating renal reabsorption and therefore increasing the availability of this trace element;
  • In the processes of cellular differentiation, especially those of cells with a high turnover, such as those of the immune system, thus being able to support the protective capacities of the organism;
  • In carbohydrate metabolism, improving endogenous insulin secretion, in response to glycemic loads.

It is therefore evident that the lack of both vitamins, associated mostly with lipid malabsorption syndromes and severe malnutrition, is able to seriously compromise the patient's state of health.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

1. THE NEONATAL COMPLICATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH MATERIAL LACKS OF LIPOSOLUBLE VITAMINS

Eur J Clin Nutr. 2010 Aug; 64 (8): 808-17. Epub 2010 Jun 2.

The lack of fat-soluble vitamins in pregnant women with HIV is one of the main causes of neurological complications and growth retardation in unborn children. The possibility of putting in place adequate prophylaxis could significantly improve the health condition of the mother and the unborn child.

2. LIPOSOLUBLE VITAMINS AND SEASONS

Hum Nutr Clin Nutr. 1983 Dec; 37 (6): 397-403.

Study demonstrating the importance of diet and seasonality of foods on blood concentrations of liposoluble vitamins. In fact, in the work we observe significant changes in the concentrations of vitamin A, D and E, from season to season so as to require supplementation in some cases.

3. VITAMINS AND LEFT VENTRICULAR DYSFUNCTION

Eur Heart J. 2005 Nov; 26 (21): 2238-44. Epub 2005 Aug 4.

Witte KK, Nikitin NP, Parker AC, von Haehling S, Volk HD, Anker SD, Clark AL, Cleland JG.

Study demonstrating that long-term supplementation with micronutrients and especially fat-soluble vitamins can improve the clinical conditions of elderly patients with heart failure due to systolic dysfunction of the left ventricle.

Method of use and dosage

ADISTEROL ®

Oral drops of 100, 000 IU (2.5 mg) of cholecalciferol + 100, 000 IU of retinol (34.4mg) per 10 ml of solution;

Oral and injectable solution for intramuscular use with 50, 000 IU (1.25 mg) of cholecalciferol + 10, 000 IU of retinol (3.44mg) per vial;

Oral and injectable solution for intramuscular use from 100, 000 IU (2.5 mg) cholecalciferol + 20, 000 IU retinol (6.88 mg) per vial;

Oral and injectable solution for intramuscular use from 300, 000 IU (7.25 mg) of cholecalciferol + 20, 000 IU of retinol (6.88mg) per vial;

Oral and injectable solution for intramuscular use from 600, 000 IU (15 mg) cholecalciferol + 40, 000 IU retinol (13.76mg) per vial;

the treatment of the deficiency states must be supervised by your doctor, who should formulate the optimal dosage, based on the sex, age and physio-pathological situation of the patient as well as the severity of the clinical picture.

Warnings ADISTEROL ® - Retinol + Colecalciferol

The presence of vitamin D in ADISTEROL ® should prompt the doctor to evaluate the calcium-phosphorus metabolism and the renal function of the patient both before and during the entire pharmacological treatment, while the potential toxic effects of high concentrations of vitamin A would require the need for periodic checks.

It is important to keep the drug away from children.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

Taking ADISTEROL ® is strongly discouraged both during pregnancy and in the subsequent breastfeeding period, given the teratogenic and toxic effects of high concentrations of vitamin A on the health of the fetus and infant.

Interactions

The blood concentrations of vitamin A could be increased by the simultaneous intake of estrogen-progestogen contraceptives, while the concomitant administration of antiepileptic, anticonvulsant and digitalis drugs could instead determine the onset of sensitive pharmacokinetic changes in vitamin D.

For this reason it is advisable to consult your doctor before taking ADISTEROL ®.

Contraindications ADISTEROL ® - Retinol + Colecalciferol

ADISTEROL ® is contraindicated in case of hypercalcaemia, in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or to the relative excipients and during the period of pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The administration of ADISTEROL ® is free of particular side effects if performed according to the correct dosage schedules.

In the event of overdose or long-term intakes, the following side effects could be observed: nausea, headache, asthenia, anorexia, cerebral edema, joint pain, weight loss, hypercalciuria, hypercalcemia, liver disease, bleeding and coma in most cases serious.

Note

ADISTEROL ® is a medicine sold only on prescription.
