Indications ANTIFLOG GEL ® Piroxicam

ANTIFLOG GEL ® is used in the symptomatic treatment of joint or periarticular pain both on a rheumatic and traumatic basis.

Action mechanism ANTIFLOG GEL ® Piroxicam

ANTIFLOG GEL ®, a drug based on Piroxicam, is a medicine belonging to the category of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for topical use, particularly effective in the local treatment of inflammatory joint pain.

The therapeutic efficacy and excellent tolerability are due to the pharmacokinetic characteristics of ANTIFLOG GEL ® which allow Piroxicam to concentrate mainly on the synovial level, considerably limiting its systemic absorption.

All this translates concretely into a therapeutic activity concentrated at the level of joint, tendon and muscle structures and a significant reduction in the side effects commonly associated with oral therapy with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

What does not change is the mode of action, characterized by the direct inhibition of cyclooxygenases 2, enzymes expressed in phlogistic conditions, capable of converting membrane phospholipids, such as arachidonic acid, into chemical mediators with activity pro-inflammatory.

The latter, known as prostaglandins, through the chemotactic, edemigenic and algogenic action support the inflammatory process and its consequences.

The use of Piroxicam therefore, in addition to guaranteeing an anti-pain and anti-inflammatory activity, is also able to carry out a protective action against the tissues involved, reducing the oxidative damage induced by reactive oxygen species and protecting the matrix from proteolytic activity of numerous enzymes.

Studies carried out and clinical efficacy

1. THE PIROXICAM GEL IN THE TREATMENT OF ATTINIC KERATOSIS

Am J Clin Dermatol. 2010; 11 (1): 45-50.

Innovative study that demonstrates how the use of Piroxicam Gel can be effective in the prevention of dermatological tumors and precancerous forms such as actinic keratosis.

This effect could be explained by the biological role of cyclooxygenases in the pathogenesis of the disease.

2. PIROXICAM IN THE CONTROL OF LASER EPILATION PAIN

J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol. 2007 Mar; 21 (3): 380-3.

Aesthetic medicine work that demonstrates how Piroxicam-based gel can be effective in reducing pain and inflammation associated with definitive laser hair removal practices. This method could increase the tolerability of laser therapy by reducing the relative complications.

3. ROLE OF PIROXICAM IN PREOPERATIVE PHASES

Acta Anaesthesiol Scand. 1996 Jul; 40 (6): 715-8.

Work demonstrating that topical application of Piroxicam in the preoperative stages may increase the effectiveness of local anesthesia, reducing both the pain score and the use of morphine.

Method of use and dosage

ANTIFLOG GEL ®

Topical gel with 1 g of Piroxicam for every 100 g of gel.

We recommend applying the gel to the skin region next to the painful joint, two to three times a day, taking care to thoroughly massage the area until the medicine is completely absorbed.

Warnings ANTIFLOG GEL ® Piroxicam

  • Avoid exposure to sunlight from the treated area;
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after applying ANTIFLOG GEL ® in order to remove any excess medication;
  • Always consult your doctor before starting therapy.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

Given the absence of clinical trials able to characterize the safety profile of Piroxicam taken topically on the health of the unborn child, it would be appropriate to extend the contraindications concerning the use of ANTIFLOG GEL ® also to pregnancy and the subsequent period of breastfeeding .

Interactions

At the moment there are no known active ingredients capable of interacting with Piroxicam, topical use, causing variations in the safety and tolerability profile of the drug.

Contraindications ANTIFLOG GEL ® Piroxicam

The use of ANTIFLOG GEL ® is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient, to one of its excipients or to other NSAIDs, contextual use of anticoagulants or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

It is recommended not to apply ANTIFLOG GEL ® on injured or inflamed skin.

Undesirable effects - Side effects

The use of ANTIFLOG GEL ® seems to have no clinically significant and well tolerated side effects.

The absence of an important systemic absorption allows to reduce to the minimum the adverse reactions usually documented following the oral intake of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

However, the appearance of skin sensitization reactions as well as photosensitization of the treated skin region could be observed.

Note

ANTIFLOG GEL ® is salable without medical prescription.
