Herbal teas and diabetes

Herbal tea 1 against diabetes

  • Walnut, Juglans regia (leaves) 50g;
  • Bean pods, Phaseolus vulgaris (pods) 50g.

With these two drugs you prepare a decoction, letting it boil for 20 minutes: once filtered you can drink 3-5 cups during the day.

In this decoction, bean pods and walnut leaves were used: the bean is used as a mild hypoglycemic agent due to the presence of chromium, which acts in the regulation of blood glucose, and of fibers, which reduce the intestinal absorption of glucose; the leaves of the walnut possess a discreet hypoglycemic activity, useful above all in the cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and due to the presence

of polyphenols with antioxidant activity and juglone (important antifungal). There are no particular contraindications in the use of this herbal tea, it is only necessary to pay attention in cases of ascertained hypersensitivity towards one or more components of the formulation. Attention also to the concomitant use of oral antidiabetic drugs (effects enhancement).

Herbal tea 2 against diabetes

  • Blueberry, Vaccinium myrtillus (leaves) 30g;
  • Walnut, Juglans regia (leaves) 30g;
  • Galega, Galega officinalis (seeds) 30g;
  • Fennel, Foeniculum valgare (fruits or seeds) 10g.

Prepare an infusion and, once filtered (if necessary), drink a cup 3 times a day. The blueberry is introduced in the formulation for its antioxidant and vasoprotective activity, very important in the prevention of vascular damage associated with diabetic pathology; the galega is used for its hypoglycemic activity due to the active ingredient galegina, a guanidine derivative; the fennel is not inserted for anti-diabetic purposes, but being rich in essential oil gives the preparation a pleasant taste, in addition to exhibiting a mild antispatic action on the intestinal musculature. There are no particular contraindications in the use of this herbal tea, it is only necessary to pay attention in cases of ascertained hypersensitivity towards one or more components of the formulation. Attention also to the concomitant use of oral antidiabetic drugs (effects enhancement).

Herbal tea 3 against diabetes

  • Blueberry, Vaccinium myrtillus (leaves) 50g;
  • Nettle, Urtica dioica (leaves) 50g.

Prepare an infusion and drink a cup 3 times a day.

Bilberry is used for its antioxidant and vasoprotective activity, while nettle is a plant that, in addition to the well-known diuretic activity, in some studies has shown a fair hypoglycemic capacity (it is assumed for the presence of trace elements and antioxidants). Attention to the concomitant use of oral and diuretic antidiabetic drugs (effects enhancement).

Herbal tea 4 against diabetes

  • Blueberry, Vaccinium myrtillus (leaves) 35g;
  • Walnut, Juglans regia (leaves) 35g;
  • Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus globulus (leaves) 15g;
  • Sage, Salvia officinalis (leaves) 15g.

Prepare an infusion and drink a cup 3 times a day.

Eucalyptus is introduced into the tea due to its antioxidant activity on the enzyme alpha-glucosidase, as well as its ability to reduce the absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine; sage is often used in natural formulations for diabetes, given the presence - among its chemical constituents - of glucokinins, polyphenols and flavonoids which help reduce blood glucose levels. Attention to the concomitant use of oral antidiabetic drugs (effects enhancement).
