Big round

The large round muscle originates from the lower part of the lateral dorsal margin of the scapula. It is inserted on the crest of the small tuberosity of the humerus (also called minor tubercle or bicipital groove).

It is related to the large dorsal, with the long head of the triceps, with the subscapularis and with the coracobrachialis muscle. The lower margin together with the large dorsal and the large round forms the posterior wall of the axillary cavity.

Its main action is to adduce, extend and intromerate the humerus; works in synergy with the dorsal gran muscle. Performs an important action in arm retroversion. Stabilizes the scapulohumeral articulation.

It is innervated by the inferior subscapular nerve (C5-C7).
