Vardenafil: posology and method of use

Before starting the treatment of erectile dysfunction with the drug vardenafil, it is recommended to consult your doctor, especially in the presence of cardiovascular diseases or other diseases; in certain circumstances, it is indeed necessary to undergo medical tests to avoid the appearance of any complications.

Use of vardenafil in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in adult men

The recommended starting dose of vardenafil is 10 mg, taken as needed, 30 to 60 minutes before the start of sexual activity, regardless of meals. It is recommended not to exceed the amount of a single daily administration.

The recommended maintenance dose for the continuation of the treatment is to be decided based on the individual response and tolerability, but also on the basis of the efficacy that vardenafil shows to the individual patient. Based on these factors, the maintenance dose can therefore be 5, 10 or 20 mg / day of vardenafil.

The dose of 20 mg / day is the maximum recommended dose; if this dose does not work, it is advisable to use other drugs or remedies to treat erectile dysfunction.

Use of vardenafil in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in the elderly

The use of vardenafil in patients of geriatric age does not require particular dosage adjustments. The drug can be used at the same doses suggested for adult patients. However, the administration of the maximum dose of vardenafil (20 mg) must be made with reserve, perhaps after a more accurate medical evaluation than usual, always taking into account the patient's individual tolerability

Use of vardenafil in patients with impaired liver function

In patients with impaired liver function, caution should be exercised when administering vardenafil and adjusting the dose if necessary. In patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment, the recommended dose of vardenafil is 5 mg / day, to be taken before an expected sexual activity and regardless of meals. If the dose of 5 mg of vardenafil is insufficient, 10 mg / day of drug can be administered, taken in a single administration always taking into account the response of each patient and individual tolerability. The dose of 10 mg / day of vardenafil is also the maximum recommended dose for patients with impaired liver function, so it is not recommended to exceed it.

There are limited clinical data on the safety of vardenafil in patients with severe hepatic impairment, so it is recommended that a careful risk / benefit assessment be made before starting treatment.

Use of vardenafil in patients with renal insufficiency

Administration of vardenafil to patients with mild or moderate renal impairment does not require special dosage adjustments; therefore, the same doses used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in adult patients can be prescribed in this category of patients. However, doctors are advised to pay more attention when dealing with this type of patient, and to the patients themselves to request a medical consultation for the appearance of any disorder, even a small one, due to taking the drug, in order to limit the risk of complications.

Patients suffering from severe kidney failure are advised to take a dose not exceeding 5 mg / day of vardenafil; this dose can be increased up to 10 mg / day where necessary, always taking into account individual tolerability and individual patient response.
